Tommy Gun's Original Barbershop

Canadian Franchise Booth

Creative Brief: Redesign for Tommy Gun’s Canada franchise trade show booth. Must display the unique selling points, key phrases, and showcase as many photos as possible of busy shops, smiling guests, and barbers.

Design: I chose to use a stepped grid so I could easily interchange images or icons of different sizes and orientation while still maintaining a cohesive layout. The stepped grid also allowed me to create some directional angles for the eye to follow, and gave me the freedom to use shapes within a shape. This way, I could use tons of images to display all of Tommy Gun’s offerings and total experience.

Outcome: More franchises sold and an art direction that has been reused in brochures, manuals, leaflets, and posts to give the entire franchising department a unique, recognizable identity.

Social Posts

Creative Brief: Drive traffic for recruitment of barbers for Upper Canada Mall shop. Encouraging users to swipe through the carousel and highlighting the signing bonus. Must be easily editable for potential use for other shops.

Design: Using illustrations to bleed across the posts, I was able to signal for the user to keep swiping, while still displaying a youthful, fun atmosphere for potential hires. Keeping the layout simple, easy to follow, displaying key employment perks, and finishing strong with the bonus offer.

Outcome: Recruitment increased, with a strong engagement, allowing us to change out the location name easily and quickly for reuse with other locations.

Illustrations: Designs by Benny.

Posters

Creative Brief: Washroom poster to be used in a mall to announce a new shop opening. Black is Tommy Gun’s primary colour, but in this instance the landlord requested a light background to conserve ink as it would be printed in house.

Design: I still needed to portray the grit and edginess of Tommy Gun’s, so I chose to use a textured, off white background that would meet the print requirements, and maintain the brand’s identity.

Creative Brief: Poster to be used in a stand out front of the shop advertising the hot shaves service.

Design: I kept it simple and impactful with the largest messaging focused on the service, and a couple of the included unique selling points always offered at Tommy Gun’s.
